Resolutions for 2017

My sister and I are all about reaching goals. Every Sunday, we text each other what our goals for the week are. Usually it involves how many times we want to work out and making sure we wait until Friday to get fancy coffee from Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme before work. I am usually one to write down my yearly resolutions, but this year I want to make it public so people can call me on it.

Here are my resolutions for 2017:

  1. I’m going to read at least 25 books.
  2. I’m going to work out at least 3 times per week.
  3. I’m going to get back to the weight that I was when Bud and I started dating.
  4. I will not buy things impulsively and I’ll save all the money I can.
  5. I will not eat out unless I’m with friends for special occasions.
  6. I will write in my blog at least twice a week.
  7. I will finish editing “Henry Halpert vs. Darkness” and “Jake and the Search for a Hero”
  8. I’m going to pass my PLT and also my Praxis II in English.
  9. I’m going to read or finish the following book series:
    • The Chronicles of Narnia
    • Star Wars: The Original Trilogy
    • The Lord of the Rings
  10. I will create a habit of happiness.

What are your resolutions?

December 20th. I love it.

I know! I know! I totally forgot to write on Sunday, but it was a busy day of traveling for me. Yesterday was just as busy, so here I am on a Tuesday, writing my blog.

First up this week, reading. I love it. I know. Boring. I spent a LOT of time at the airport on Sunday and I managed to read a really good book. “The One Safe Place” is a dystopian novel about kids that are living on their own and get the opportunity to live in “paradise.” As all dystopian novels go, it comes with a price and they all have to stick together.

I love it.

Next up, the movies. I love it. On Sunday, Mike, Andi, and I went to see “Rogue One.” They are on the fence about how they felt about it but I loved it. Especially when they tied in the fourth movie. Continuity is my favorite.

I love it.

Finally, puzzles. I love it. Lupita was her amazing self and got me a great puzzle for Christmas! It’s Minnie and Mickey (my favorites) and they’re Santa and Mrs. Claus. How cute is that? The puzzle is glittery too! I’m going to save it and do it with Brian when he gets here on Thursday.

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

December 11th. I love it.

I know that I haven’t been writing very often lately and I’m terribly sorry. NaNoWriMo controlled by life in November but I promise I’ll write at least twice a week now!

First up this week, soup. I love it. I’ve lived in my new apartment for a month now and until last Sunday, I had not used the stove or the oven. That changed when I finally made pasta. I also utilized my crock pot and used cream of broccoli soup, corn, and green beans and made a delicious soup/pasta thing. It fed me all week and cost a total of $4 to make.

I love it.

Next up, Christmas movies. I love it. I’ve been hitting the Christmas movies hard this week. The Santa Clause, Charlie Brown Christmas, The Grinch, Scrooge, Christmas Vacation, and Arthur Christmas were all on the docket. I have a few more I’m waiting for at the library so I’ll have plenty to watch this week, too.

I love it.

Finally, dances. I love it. This one is a semi-lie because in fact, I hate dances. As advisor to the Middle School Student Council, I was put to task planning a holiday dance with 6-8th graders. You can’t really call yourself an event manager until you work with kids planning an event because of all of the curve balls they throw at you. Overall, it went off without a hitch and I’m really glad that we did it before the holidays so I’m not stressing about it over break. 4 and a half more days until I am free for two whole weeks!

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

December 4th. I love it.

Great week, friends!

First up this week, Day of Service. I love it. On Friday I went on the Day of Service with my 6th graders. All of us had a great time at Second Harvest Food Bank. We uncrated and rebooted over 2,100 pounds of green peppers. Amazing! In the afternoon we read Christmas books to the kindergarten class and finished up the day cleaning the chapel. The kids did great and I think they got a lot out of it.

I love it.

Next up, finishing my novel. I love it. Well, technically, it’s not finished-finished. I’ve got it all written down and I’m waiting until Christmas break to go back and edit it. Then I’ll be ready for my first set of test readers. And then? More editing! National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) was so fun. I can’t wait to do it next year, too!

I love it.

Finally, Christmas movies. I love it. I went to the library yesterday and had no luck finding Christmas movies. Now that I live closer to the giant library, things are less intimate and apparently they don’t think about things like separating them during the holidays. Anyway, I went home and requested a bunch of my favorites (“Christmas Vacation” being my #1) so as they come in I can have a marathon! Today, though, I was on Netflix and watched “Miracle of 34th Street”, and basically every single “Buddies” movie (you know, the ones with Air Bud’s kids) including Snow Buddies, Santa Buddies, Santa Paws, and Santa Paws 2. Very festive.

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

November 27th. I love it.

First up this week, Thanksgiving. I love it. This is the first year in a while that I’ve spent the day with family. I flew to NC and spent a few days relaxing and eating. So much eating. We had a smoked turkey, green bean casserole, and I even made two pecan pies. The leftovers were just as good.

I love it.

Next up, the mountains. I love it. While on North Carolina this week, we stayed at this awesome house on a vineyard. Sitting on the back porch gave you a great view of the mountains. The house was really nice too and we watched a ton of movies and drank a lot of coffee.

I love it.

Finally, Christmas music. I love it. It’s finally okay for me to listen to my favorite genre of music! I enjoyed it during my flights yesterday and today I watched my first official Christmas movie of the year, Snow Day. Okay, not a traditional Christmas movie but one of my favorites.

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

November 20th. I love it.

Totally forgot to write last week, friends. So sorry.

First up, my new apartment. My last apartment had two bedrooms and two bathrooms which was nice when Bud was still here, but I couldn’t afford it anymore. Last week I moved into a studio and it’s the perfect size for all of my stuff! Now all I need to do is get used to it and start sleeping again and I’m good!

I love it.

Next up, sales. I love it. I went to Walmart yesterday and scored big with Disney Infinity characters! They’re usually $13 but I got them for $5 each! And I even got DI2 for $15. The game has been discontinued so everything is gonna go away fast!

I love it.

Finally, Room. I love it. It was my favorite movie up for an Oscar last year and I really wanted to read the book. I got it from the library and tore through it in 2 days. It might be my favorite book this year.

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

November 6th. I love it.

It’s been busy, people, but worth it!

First up this week, NaNoWriMo. I love it. For those that don’t know, that stands for “National Novel Writing Month.” The goal is to write about 1,700 words per day for a month and by the 30th of November, you have a 50,000 word novel. I, being a writer of middle grade novels, have set my sights for 1,000 words a day. So far I’ve kept my pace and I feel really good about my idea. What I have found is that having a group of people keeping you on track. My brother started an email chain where a bunch of us report back everyday. It’s what I need to stay focused. And we all need the accountability.

I love it.

Next up, mermaids. I love them! Yesterday, I as a 26 year old kidult (get it) drove downtown to the aquarium so I could see mermaids. Real. Live. Mermaids. So, they may have been ladies dressed up as mermaids, but they were cool none the less. They were even in the shark tank! The place was jam packed and I was probably the only adult unaccompanied with a child. I’m okay with that.

I love it.

Finally, anniversaries. I love it. Bud and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary on Thursday. I let him his presents while I was in NC last weekend but he opened them over Skype. He sent me a dozen roses. I don’t know where he gets his flowers from, but they always look so pretty and last for a very long time. I love him.

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.
