January 31st. I love it.

Yay love.

First up this week, riding my bike. I love it! Bud got me a bike for Christmas and after finally picking one out and getting it setup to fit me perfectly, I was able to ride it this week. I didn’t go far on the few rides I took but once I get a more comfortable bike seat you can expect to see me riding all the time!

I love it.

Next up, exceeding goals. I love it. I am a very goal driven person and this year I have challenged myself to read 25 books. That means 2 books a month. Well, here it is the last day of January and I’ve already read 4! I like to get ahead while I can because I know life will be crazy in a few weeks when baseball is in full swing.

I love it.

Finally, King cake. I love it. Today was the King Cale Festival in downtown New Orleans and it was great as always. We sampled 10 different King cakes (and a King cake ice cream) and Brian and I both agreed that Haydel’s had the best this year. What your favorite kind of King cake?

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

Keeping me awake.

Lately, I’ve been battling a pretty terrible ear infection. Lots of pain, lots of doctor appointments, and apparently, no sleep. I haven’t slept for more than 4 hours a night for over a week. Today, I woke up at 2:30am and here I am, 8am, and I am still wide awake.

You might be wondering what I do those 4 hours before my alarm goes off and I get my workout in and feed the cats. This is what happened last night:

10:30pm – Went to bed.

2:30am – Woke up.

3:00am – Thought about getting out of bed to clean my ears, but didn’t.

3:30am – Couldn’t stand it anymore so I got up, washed my ears out with mineral oil, and sat in the bathroom in extreme pain as I cleaned my ears.

3:45am – Didn’t want to lay back in bed and continue waking Brian up every time I moved, so I went to the living room and sat on the couch with Yogi.

4:00am – With no blanket in the living room, I was cold and Yogi and I went back and laid in bed.

4:15am – Started practicing Spanish conversations in my head to impress Lupita next time I see her.

4:20am – Started making a mental note of everything I’d done so far so I could write about it later.

4:45am – Maisy joined the crowd in bed.

5:00am – Yogi and Maisy had a boxing match to see who got to sleep closest to Brian’s face (Maisy won).

5:30am – Brian stirs, I tell him I’m awake ( I always do that now so he knows he doesn’t have to be quiet).

5:40am – Refresh my memory of everything I’d done so far so I could write about it later.

5:45am – Yogi realizes that since we are all awake, it must be breakfast. He continues to lick my face until our alarm goes off at 6:00am

2015 – A year in books.

I just realized that I never shared the books that I read in 2015! It was hard to beat 52 books (which I read in 2014), but I still think 20 is pretty good. I didn’t have a theme this year. I just wanted to read. If you have suggestions for 2016, comment below!

Here’s the list!

  1. Look Me In the Eyes – a story about autism
  2. Something Borrowed – a tale a friendship and unfriendship
  3. The Borrowers – 5th grade throwback
  4. Twilight – So good!
  5. Geektastic – this had me written all over it
  6. Landline – another fantastic book by Rainbow Rowell
  7. New Moon – again, so good!
  8. Hoot – save the owls!
  9. Courage for Beginners – a touching story about a girl learning to do things on her own
  10. Something Blue – the follow up story to Something Borrowed – loved it more than the first book
  11. Running with Scissors – the crazy life of Augusten Burroughs
  12. Killing Lincoln – truth in history
  13. Operation Pucker Up – Miss Alpine’s second book!
  14. The Scorch Trials – not as good as Maze Runner
  15. Stories I Only Tell My Friends – Rob Lowe has quite the interesting life
  16. The Orchard – Anne Frasier’s autobiography (she’s my favorite author)
  17. Not My Father’s Son – Alan Cumming had to overcome so much
  18. The Kite Runner – this was my favorite book this year
  19. Anastasia: the Last Grand Duchess – I’d like to thank Mrs. PB for getting me interested in the Russian Royal Family
  20. Tuesdays with Morrie – Do not read this book on an airplane

January 24th. I love it.

I’m giving you some love, friends!

First up this week, dinner with friends. I love it. We had a triple date night with some friends yesterday. We went out for sushi (from my favorite place, Kyoto 2) and after being loud and inappropriate (I’m looking at you Curtis and Travis), we went to Curtis’ house where the party got really wild. Just kidding. We listened to music and watched Jackie and Audra use a beard trimmer to fix a throw rug.

I love it.

Next up, the Broncos game. I love it. There are very few occasions that I get super excited, at least outwardly, and watching my man Peyton lead the Bronco to a win over the Patriots was probably the best thing I’ve seen all season. I was literally standing right in front of the TV and screamed out loud when Manning took the victory formation. Super Bowl 50!

I love it.

Finally, Swiffer Dusters. I love it. I’ve lived on my own for about 5 years now and I can honestly say I didn’t understand the big deal about Swiffer. I changed my mind today when I was cleaning the house (it’s Reset Sunday, don’t you know), and could see the cat hair and dust I just wiped off of the bookshelf floating in front of my face. I thought, “I need to try something else.” I picked up a Swiffer duster and my life will be forever changed. The dirt clings to it! I have a feeling I won’t despise dusting all of my books anymore.

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

Kid Snippets

If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching the Bored Shorts Youtube Channel, and witnessing the gloriousness that is “Kid Snippets”, I suggest you do.

Parents give their kids talking points and they have a conversation. That conversation is then acted out by the parents in the most hilarious way.

Check out there latest one about cleaning your room!

January 17th. I love it.

Oh, goodness! This actually was a pretty good week! Let me tell you about it!

First up, City-Putt. I love it. Brian had to work at the tennis match on Saturday morning so I went with him to support the team. When he was done, we went to City-Putt, also in City Park, and played a round of mini-golf. It was a very close competition and even though I had a few rough holes near the end, I came out on top by one stroke! You can call that a stroke of luck (terrible joke, I know).

I love it.

Next up, ice cream. I love it. I know, I say this a lot, but this week I was spoiled and had ice cream twice! I was really craving it on Thursday night which led to a Dairy Queen run in the rain (I’m so glad Bud loves me enough to want to do that) and dinner in Elmwood on Friday night was followed up by Cold Stone! See? Spoiled. To ensure that I don’t splurge like that again this week, I made sure I bought ice cream when I went shopping this morning!

I love it.

Finally, Hateful 8. I love it. We didn’t go to the movies on Wednesday this week (we had a basketball game), so we went yesterday. We have a bunch of movies on our list, especially now that the Oscar noms are out, but we saw Hateful 8. It was very excellent. Definitely a Tarantino movie – lots of talking and blood – but I love Tim Roth and Tarantino, so it was a must see!

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

January 10th. I love it.

First up this week, Big Bang Theory. I love it. I got season 8 for Christmas and had some time to myself on Friday and ended up finishing the entire thing. I don’t watch the show while it airs (until recently, I didn’t have cable), but now I need to know what happens to Shamy!!

I love it.

Next up, my new planner. I love it. I decided to go old school this year and not rely on my phone as my planner. I miss having the ability to see everything all at once. I don’t like the way my phone calendar functions, but now I can have my planner out and have everything in front of me!

I love it.

Finally, date nights. I love it. Brian and I had our first actual date night in a while so yesterday after we went shopping and hung around the house, we treated ourselves to a movie (Concussion) and dinner at Joey K’s followed by Sucre. Yum! Perfect!

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.
