March 26th. I love it.

First up this week, Merlin. I love it. It’s a show that I’ve watched before and I was obsessed with. Now, my obsession continues. Since I know how it ends, it’s fun to see the hints and clues as to what will happen. Thank you Netflix!

I love it.

Next up, Lord of the Rings. I love it. Not only did I watch the movies this week (well, the first and last one because I have lost the second one), but I started reading “Fellowship of the Ring.” The movie is pretty accurate, but I’m already more than halfway through the book and they haven’t even made it to Rivendell yet. It’s one of my goals to read all of the books this year so I’m well on my way.

I love it.

Finally, Scrabble. I love it. I’ve had it on my iPad forever but I just recently broke into a binge again. I play my Aunt everyday and my parents. Today, I sent out a bunch of invites so if you want to play me, let me know! I’m on all the time!

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

March 19th. I love it.

Love, friends.

First up this week, “Once Was a Time.” I love it. This is an amazing book that was recommended to me. I seriously couldn’t put it down! Check out my book review for it in an earlier post (don’t worry, no spoilers)!

I love it.

Next up, dinner with Bud. I love it. It wasn’t a planned thing, but Bud and I happened to be eating together the other night when we were FaceTiming. He had Chipotle and I had soup and we talked about our day. It was almost like he was with me… Almost.

I love it.

Finally, Beauty and the Beast. I love it. I saw the new movie with Emma Watson that just came out on Friday and it was probably the best movie I’ve seen this year. It gave me chills and goosebumps and I immediately went home and bought the soundtrack. I’ve been listening to it almost nonstop. It’s much like the original but with a new twist. It definitely didn’t disappoint.

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

Once Was a Time – A book review

The librarian at my school is always on point when it comes to suggesting books for me. This week, she recommended “Once Was a Time” by Leila Sales.

I cannot tell you how happy this book made me.

Starting off in England in 1940 in the midst of WWII, Lottie and her friend Kitty are inseparable. They spend holidays together, go to school together, and listen to Lottie’s  dad tell his theories on time travel.

One night, the girls are captured and taken away to an unfamiliar place and used as bait to get Lottie’s dad to tell them the secrets of time travel. Just as one of the guards is about to pull the trigger, Lottie sees a portal open and takes her chance to run through it.

She finds herself in America in 2013, still 10 years old and way behind the times. After befriending a librarian (and living in the library for 3 days without anyone noticing), Lottie (now known as Charlotte) is put in a loving foster home while she learns about the time she missed and catches up on the present. No matter what, her mind is always on Kitty and how awful she feels that she abandoned her.

3 years go by and Charlotte is still haunted by visions of her friend. After giving up on her group of “friends” (I use that term loosely), she retreats to the library and finds a note in her favorite book.

From her best friend Kitty.

Now Charlotte is on a mission to find her best friend.

Can she do it?

Always wear cute pajamas.

This is a life lesson I learned from my mom a few years ago. She doesn’t remember teaching it to me, but I remember everything so I win.

My mom has had back pain for as long as I can remember. She threw out her back while sneezing once and I like to remind her of it often. Once, her back hurt so bad that she couldn’t get out of bed.

Doing what any normal person would do, she called her mom. My Grandma came over and was unable to assist in any way, except put on a pair of old, ratty pajamas, so what does my mom do next?

She’s calls 911.

I can only imagine how embarrassing it is to call an emergency line for assistance getting out of bed, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Once the firefighters arrived (yes, they sent firefighters), they took to work on helping my mom out of bed (a dream scenario for some, I’m sure). We live in a small town and my mom was glad the the fire chief wasn’t the one who showed up and she thought she’d survive the day without seeing anyone she knew.

She would be wrong.

From the crowd of men around her she heard, “Gina?” Mortified, she looked around and saw one of her friends from a long time ago (I can’t tell you when). After some awkward small talk, they managed to rescue my mom from the bed and took her to the hospital.

The lesson I learned from this story is that you always need to wear cute pajamas at night because you never know who is going to have to come rescue you in the morning.

March 12th. I love it.

Such a great week, friends.

First up this week, winning our first softball game. I love it. We’ve played 6 games this season and on Friday we, StM got their first win. The girls rocked it, scoring 18 runs in 3 innings. I’m so proud of them. Hopefully we can keep this winning feeling going all week this week, too.

I love it.

Next up, reading. I love it. This weekend I read 2 books that were awesome. “A Perfect Place” and “Loot.” They are both on the Louisiana Young Readers Choice list for this year and now I’ve read every book on that list. 11 in all. My favorite one was “Upside Down in the Middle of Nowhere” by far but all of the books were rather enjoyable. And now, even though it’s only March, I’m already halfway to my book goal of the year.

I love it.

Finally, hanging out with friends. I love it. Today was the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Metairie and lucky for me, my friends live on the parade route. We scored a ton of beads (that will be going straight to the bead drive at school), lots of produce, and I even got a Ninja Turtle. Great day, great fun.

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.

March 5th. I love it.

Holy, guacamole! It’s March?

First up this week, road trips. I love them. I took the 12 hour trip to visit Bud last Saturday. The beautiful thing about living in New Orleans is that my school got a whole week off for Mardi Gras. Like any sensible person, I fled town and headed to the mountains. I spent a whole week with Bud in Boone, NC. It was freezing, but totally worth the trip. The distance isn’t really that bad when you have good tunes and the occasional phone call to distract you.

I love it.

Next up, movies. I love it. I know, I know. Movies? Again? This week Bud and I went to see The Lego Batman Movie and Logan. I loved them both! I’m sad that Logan is the last (or is it) story with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but it was a great way to end his reign. Lego Batman was hilarious and everything I wanted and more. The Lego Ninjago Movie should be coming out soon and that will be just as good, I know!

I love it.

Finally, Marvel Battlegrounds. I love it. Think Super Smash Bros. and you have the Disney Infinity version. Bud and I got into a pretty heated battle and while he can beat me at the racing games, I dominate the button-mashing games. Spider-Man and Ronan were my favorite guys to play with while Bud preferred Groot. Now I need to buy Ronan and Groot so I have them forever!

I love it. It’s great. Everything’s great.

I love it.
